What are you waiting for?
As the fall season approaches and I hear from so many people that they will “get back to their healthy habits” once school starts, I have one question for you…
What are you waiting for?
This little story is what prompted me to ask you that…
In 2009, me and my husband, who wasn’t my husband yet, visited his family in Greece. It was a place I always wanted to visit and as you can imagine, I left with a yearning to go back as soon as possible.
As life goes, fast forward 11 years after getting married, having children, and starting a business. We decided 2020 would be the year we would introduce our kids to Greece and vacation there as a family of four.
But as I said, that was 2020…
Fast forward again one year, and we hoped 2021 would be our next best chance. We visualized how it would feel to get out after being stuck at home for over a year.
One of our priorities for this trip was to visit the mainland, where my Great Grandfather on my Dad’s side came from. I had already looked it up online and saw it was a beautiful place.
We were excited and hopeful, but at that point traveling still wasn’t something we were confident in.
We talked through our options and in March decided we would put it off another year with hopes that 2022 would work.
We ended our conversation with me saying “I just want to make sure we go in time so that I can tell my Dad all about it.” We made a deal and knew we’d make it happen…when things were better…next year…
Two months after this conversation, we unexpectedly lost my father.
At the risk of thinking “it’s just not worth it any more”, we kept our promise and made it to Greece this year. It included a special trip to the village my Great Grandfather’s family came from.
I won’t get to tell my Dad in person what a gorgeous and magical place this is, but I have a feeling he was there with us.
I’m sharing this valuable lesson I learned painfully, to ask you - “What are you waiting for?”
The right time?
Perfect conditions?
I’m not saying we could have done anything differently. A global pandemic was out of our control and kept us from traveling when we initially hoped to.
I’m sharing this message with you because I believe in optimism, hope, and looking towards the future instead of dwelling on the past. So I say this with inspiration and motivation behind it…
Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.
Don’t let anything outside of your control hold you back from what you really want.
Whether it’s travel, mending a relationship, or living a healthy lifestyle…
If something is truly important to you, make it happen.
What are you waiting for?
